AVIWEST Bonded Cellular Solution Delivers Live Broadcast Of Pro Cycling Race For Oman TV

The 2022 Tour of Oman multistage cycling race was broadcast live using Aviwest’s flagship PRO3 Series bonded cellular transmitters and StreamHub transceiver.
To offer sports fans on-land and aerial coverage of the competition, national broadcaster Oman TV equipped motorbikes, shoulder cameras, and drones with PRO3 transmitters — deploying them in more than 13 locations around the country to follow the 891-km race. In addition, the broadcaster relied on the StreamHub transceiver to distribute the footage to affiliates and other international broadcasters.
“AVIWEST solutions gave us more flexibility to cover the Tour of Oman live, allowing us to streamline our workflows and deliver greater coverage that captures different aspects of the competition,” said Tariq Al-Mawali, Satellite Broadcasting and Links Department at the Ministry of Information, Sultanate of Oman. “Our motorbikes, drones, and remote teams followed riders throughout the country’s rich and varied landscapes to capture the excitement of the race live over cellular networks.”
Each PRO3 Series transmitter in the field delivered premium video quality with low end-to-end latency over 4G/3G cellular networks to AVIWEST’s StreamHub platform — located in Oman TV’s control room. The StreamHub platform then received and decoded the live feeds. Supporting multiple output formats and featuring a freshly redesigned and intuitive web user interface, StreamHub allowed video content to be freely and easily distributed over virtually any IP network to CDNs, media servers, streaming platforms, and multiple affiliates and other broadcast facilities.
StreamHub features AVIWEST’s Safe Streams Transport (SST) protocol, which reliably combines multiple algorithms — including FEC, ARQ, and VBR rate control — to provide a high quality of service. It can be deployed on-premises or operated as a cloud-based service tailored to any news or live video production organization’s workflow and operational constraints, making it ideally suited for today’s ever-evolving multiscreen video delivery world.
“AVIWEST technologies enabled reliable, premium broadcast-grade video quality during the 2022 Tour of Oman, ensuring a smooth transmission and unparalleled stability even in the midst of unpredictable and unmanaged network conditions at congested and remote locations,” said Nicola Atta, Middle East sales director at AVIWEST. “We are proud that our solutions have been adopted by the Ministry of Information in the Sultanate of Oman.”
