iSIZE Presents Sustainable Video Delivery Technology Innovations At NAB 2022
iSIZE, a specialist in deep learning for efficient, intelligent and sustainable video delivery, is exhibiting for the first time at NAB 2022, and will be demonstrating its latest deep perceptual optimization innovations – such as BitSave, and unveiling its latest BitClear solution.
BitSave delivers deep psychovisual preprocessing for maximum bitrate savings. It mimics key elements of human vision via a deep perceptual optimizer, without requiring any change to encoding, delivery or decoding devices. It automatically removes details from the input that are perceptually unimportant and incur large rate and complexity overhead during encoding with industry standards like AVC, HEVC, VP9 and AV1. The iSIZE AI engine learns to distinguish such details in the content in an autonomous manner and does not need any input from the encoder. The end result is shown to increase compression efficiency of AVC, HEVC, VP9 and AV1 by up to 50%, as validated by extensive commercial tests and human ratings obtained with standard protocols like ITU-T P.910 ACR tests.
BitClear is an AI-based video processing technology that removes compression artifacts (like blurring and blocking artifacts) from user-generated (or heavily compressed) content. Video content that has been through multiple transcoding iterations can be revived to the maximum possible quality without affecting the artistic intent of the original creators. The process can also allow for video upscaling, all with as little as 5ms processing latency on GPUs or high-performance CPUs.
“Audiences want the best quality and the ultimate viewing experience. While the video delivery infrastructure to support this is changing, the pace of updates remains slow and is putting pressure on companies to look for further innovation to support this demand. With video making up more than 80% of internet traffic, the carbon footprint generated by video streaming is increasing rapidly and has already overtaken the airline industry. It is vital for the environment that we act now,’’ said Sergio Grce, CEO of iSIZE. “Both BitSave and BitClear are currently being deployed, at scale, and can give today’s viewers what they expect while making video streaming more sustainable.’’
Live demos of iSIZE technology will be running on its booth, including its state-of-the-art photo-realistic, realtime avatars, the newest innovation that delivers video stream at a near zero data footprint – a significant leap forward in our mission to a net-zero world.
