PSSI Combats 5G C-band Interference

In response to the FCC mandate that the lower six C-band transponders can no longer be used to land traffic in the U.S., PSSI Global Services is installing filters on all of its C-band transmission vehicles in order to mitigate interference from the incursion of 5G wireless transmitters.
The company is also conducting an extensive training program for its engineering and project management teams to prepare them to navigate the transmission challenges that will result from the FCC mandate.
PSSI has invested heavily in a comprehensive program to assist in identifying and mitigating the effects of 5G interference. New frequency and interference testing equipment has been acquired, and PSSI’s engineers have been trained in its use. Adding specialized filters to the C-band trucks is an expensive, complex process. The trucks must travel thousands of miles from their base locations to PSSI’s engineering headquarters in Las Vegas and Orlando, where the company’s expert staff will ensure the equipment is installed efficiently and correctly. Once installed, the filters will allow PSSI’s engineers in the field to filter out noise on the lower third of the C-band spectrum so that they receive their own signal (confidence return) as well as receive network return feeds so that PSSI can continue to provide the exceptional transmission services its customers have come to expect.
Throughout the three-plus year FCC C-band transition, PSSI has been a consistent, leading advocate for managing the transition responsibly and mitigating potential 5G interference to incumbent C-band users. PSSI has invested thousands of hours and significant resources partnering with satellite service providers, industry associations and third-party engineering firms to equitably manage the competing requirements of all C-band users.
