Not to be confused with the British cloud web-hosting company of the same name, Alpha Networks of Brussels describes itself as specialising in television from the cloud, with the aim of simplifying pay-TV.
The engineering department that continues to be the core of the company today was brought together and began working on system designs in 2007. Following lab-based proof of concept demonstrations Alpha Networks was officially launched in April 2008, with an ADSL2+ network established later that year. The company's offering is now based on three main products. WeCare is described as the operational heart of the system, delivering business management functionality through a web-based graphical user interface. WeManage is the technical and operational component, giving network monitoring, device management and is the basis of technical services for IPTV, web TV, video-on-demand and linear TV channels. WeAccess is the consumer interface, with middleware giving the end-user access to a variety of TV services, as well as web ordering. This allows connection with widely used devices, including iPhones, iPads, Android phones and tablets, TVs, Macs and PCs. Alpha Networks produces technology for both IPTV and OTT platforms, with its Software Suite making CMS (content management system) and OSS/BSS (operational support systems/business support systems) features available for both TV and telecom operators.
Among Alpha Networks' technology partners are broadpeak, Ericsson, Harmonic and Harris, with users including Mobistar (cable TV and broadband), OTT service Le Bouquest African La Box TV and linear and on-demand TV services from BASE Company (formerly KPN Group Belgium).
